Finally, he contains the main plot to only one novel so I don't have to read another trilogy to get some closure. This one is well worth the the time invested. He dos not disappoint in this one either. I am glad Painter got some action and the best tough guy line of the book.
I get the same feeling when a young 10 year old was reading Doc Savage there is even a Monk in both series.
I bought the book on a whim, but quickly found myself unable to put it down. It is action packed from cover to cover, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The ONLY reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the first half of the book is peppered with typos and awkward sentences. There are a few in the last half, though not as many.
It probably wouldn't bother most readers, but it pulled me right out of the story every time, as most were mistakes a grade school child could point out.
Granted, it is more a matter of editing than storytelling, but there you go. Still, I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a bit of fantasy with their history. Excellent character developments.
Awesome suspense build up. Hard to put book down. Reader is drawn into the story. Rollins, this is the third book I've read and I don't think I will continue to download his books. It seems his plots are becoming more and more far-fetched with each new book.
This is supposed to be an action-mystery book, but there are so many holes in his plot, it's almost unbearable to read. And what's with the clean language?!? At least people are murdered in full gore, yet the tough guys worst curse is "friggin"?!? Anything more and you are wasting money. I have read the previous Sigma Force books and am a huge James Rollins fan.
The Devil Colony continues the Sigma Force characters in a new adventure. Typicall James Rollins it is a story steeped in history and realistic possibilities within his fantasy World. It was a not want to put down read through to the end novel. I highly suggest everyone read all of James Rollins novels including this one. He's got the formula down and he executes it well and that is one of the pleasures of reading him.
It's the same kind of thing that has kept the James Bond franchise going for over 20 films. I especially like the cool things you learn when reading Rollins and the fact that he includes an afterword where he talks about which aspects of the story are factual and which are fanciful.
Don't look for probing examinations of characters' emotional depths here. Do expect a good, action-packed story. A worldwide search for an object that will save the world from certain destruction. The pages are filled with a lot of action and mystery as the author leads the reader on a well defined tour of old ruins and mystery. You will not be disappointed in reading this story if you are a mystery fan.
Get a copy today and enjoy the story. I am sorry Doctor, but more character development would greatly improve the Sigma folks. I have been to some of these Native American places so I had a good idea what the location looked like. Could have used a bit more description for others who have not seen these 'general' locations. Please continue writing and I will definitely continue to read your works!
Loved the interplay of science fiction with American history. I really appreciated how the main characters including the head of Sigma and the scientist were Native Americans. Definitely a page turner. As a result, Kobo has attracted millions of readers from more than countries and features one of the world's largest eReading catalogues with over 2.

Some of the heroes e. Also, one of the early chapters wins some kind of ingenuity award for the cleverest use of a natural "weapon" to take out bad guys. Overall, then, I think this is the best-written of the Sigma series, one I had an easy time following but a hard time putting down. Once again, we have a story that takes a bit of scientific facts and throws it together into a suspense packed thriller. In this novel, we get introduced to another member of Sigma Force, Kowalski, who is presented as a walking muscle but he does have a working mind under the muscle, considering how he sees things.
This story follows two paths of two teams who wind up together in the same place at the end in the search for a solution to a problem. One path follows clues left by Marco Polo during his voyage back home. The other path follows a pathogen to it's source. I am thouorghly enjoying the Sigma series. James Rollins has done a remarkable job of drawing the reader into caring for the main as well as the secondary characters in the stories.
The only minor niggle I have with his writing style is the repeated use of what I call "mini cliff hangers" to end a chapter, only to have the issue almost miraculously resolved a few pages later. It works the first few times, but loses much of it's literary punch after a while. That aside, the story telling keeps the reader engaged to the last page.
I think Rollins' signature move is that one part in each book where the content of the entire story is drawn down to a razor edge; the reveal and subsequent emotional release in those few pages is almost magical and Rollins is at his absolute best here. I realize this has been a general review and not book-specific, but if it helps draw a few more readers into the Sigma series, then I will have accomplished my task.
Don't be afraid to invest in this series. One person found this helpful. Not exactly being an avid reader, I first was introduced to James Rollins Sigma Force series book by happenstance, an event I am thoroughly grateful for. The Map Of Bones book was picked up my girlfriend as a means to pass time between lengthy flights between Europe from the U.
Fortunately for me, the in-flight media held her attention both directions leaving the book unread for several months.
In a spout of boredom, and in pity of the unopened book, I cracked the cover and was immediately hooked. Any one who has read a James Rollins book, I'm sure, can relate. Being hooked on the Sigma Force series, I recently acquired the Devil Colony in order to appease the Rollins' addiction. In normal style, the book opens with a peek into the not so distant past, this time it the late 's in Kentucky Territory, with a mysterious story of treasure, mystery, and murder with ties to the Founding Fathers of the United States, Lewis and Clark, Secret Societies, and Native Americans.
The story only gets more engaging and exciting as it moves into the present, when a lost treasure resurfaces and threatens to destroy the world, the fate resting once again on the cunning and strength of the infamous Sigma Force.
James Rollins once again delivers an evocative book impossibly weaving technology, history, and religion.
