TL;DR: Blade of the Iron Throne is the best RPG I've played and you should play it. I recently picked up a PDF copy of Blade of the Iron Throne. Review of Blade of the Iron Throne While the influence of the genre on RPGs is undeniable (as a cursory read through Appendix N .. The PDF is okay; readable enough, but not a lot in the way of links and bookmarks. Blade of the iron throne character sheet - Free download as PDF File .pdf), Text File .txt) or read online for free. Naked Dwarf is no more - attributes are halved in the damage calculation. The Rewards for Pledging are listed to the right. As you can see we've chosen to structure things quite differently to most Kickstarters.
The most important thing to note about the Rewards is this - if you want a physical copy of Blade of the Iron Throne then that will involve downloading it through a Print on Demand PoD service.
What will that cost? The next point to be made involves downloading multiple versions of Blade of the Iron Throne.
This is very simple. When the Kickstarter completes all those who have Pledged over the amount of their Reward will be asked which additional version s they wish to receive. We don't want people to over-pledge just so they can see Kickstarter Stretch Goals.
We prefer a transparent approach. Our initial Funding Goal gets us the bare minimum we need to commission artwork and hire an InDesign guru to update our layouts. It gives us the money we need to deliver on the Rewards for the Pledges.
So if we make our target we will have enough money to finish the project and get everyone's Rewards to them. Not only that, it will be delivered by the end of the first week of May.
That's about two months earlier than the scheduled availability dateor the other versions. Any money that we receive over and above our Funding Goal will go into a warchest. It is as simple as that.
Risks and challenges The awesome thing about this project is that the game has already been produced. The Beta program that ran between the start of January and the middle of March saw the free PDF version of our game downloaded by people.
They posted my review in their forums for discussion. I really liked the idea. Except the part where they attached my name to it. A little too personal, I feel. Some comments were useful or sympathetic, even if they disagreed; but some were just kind of rude. I would like to offer a defense without being defensive. Death Blow. Grasping a sword by the blade and using it to bludgeon heavily armored foes.
A sword is a sword. A "Blade Heavy" sword would make this counter productive like hitting someone See more in the head with the handle of a hammer and not the head. A sneaky move to be sure; but the worst thing you could do to a "heavily armored" opponent. They made the rules for the game broad enough to cover all kinds of no to light magic fantasy and maybe I should have worked "house rules" to cover problems I have with the mechanics.
But the authors, very strongly stated it was the players choice on rules calls not the "DM's". Is your book mine or your intellectual property?
Showing up for chips and dips for a few hours is hardly the work that I spend all week fleshing out adventures and campaigns. I am all about players adding suggestions; but, if my world lacks firearms, player vote means nothing. Welcome to join or find another campaign.
My world, my rules. Thank you SO much!
